The low-cost carrier airlines continue to transform the aviation landscape and challenge traditional operating models in a capital intensive, tightly regulated, and highly mature sector.
Ryanair and Easyjet continue to lead the way in Europe, carrying over 250 million passengers in 2023. Both airlines started 30 years ago, at a time when traditional and flag carrier airlines monopolised the industry. The low-cost carriers recognised the opportunity to challenge and change, providing a new way to managing the end-to-end operation. They were true disruptors.
A number of other low-cost carriers were setup and launched in the early 2000’s, all of which adopted these new operational processes and efficiencies. One such airline was bmibaby, which was part of the wider BMI British Midland Group. The airline grew rapidly in its early years, growing to an annual turnover in excess of £200m and carrying 4.5m passengers on 21 aircraft based at five UK airports. David Bryon served as part of the start-up team of bmibaby, then as Commercial Director and subsequently Managing Director. The airline was sold in 2012 to IAG (British Airways), along with the other divisions of the BMI Group.
In this FREE course, David will explore how the innovative ideas that originated from low-cost carriers can be used across all business sectors. David will also introduce his own 8 C’s for running a successful business. This truly is a 'blue sky thinking' course!
The presentation is designed for business leaders and senior management looking to understand how successful transformational strategies can be deployed in capital intensive, tightly regulated, and highly mature sectors. This is not specific to aviation, but the revolution within the airline industry does provide an excellent example that can be readily understood by other business sectors. An example of some of the roles that could benefit:
