Jamie Barcombe

Jamie Barcombe is a European and Chartered U.K. patent attorney, with a background in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. His practice spans contentious and non-contentious patent matters, including European Patent Office (EPO) oppositions, as well as counselling, drafting, and prosecution.

Jamie is commercially-minded and focuses on devising and implementing patent strategies that provide commercial value. He is experienced in managing large international patent portfolios for clinical and pre-clinical candidates, building portfolios that encompass the candidates themselves, in addition to their medical uses, manufacturing methods and patient subgroups.

Jamie’s technical expertise covers a broad array of technologies within the pharmaceutical and industrial biotechnology industries. He works with pharmaceutical technologies including nucleotide and protein therapies, gene editing, stem cells, and biomarkers. In the industrial biotechnology space, Jamie represents clients developing biofuels, synthetic biological materials, nutritional products, and industrial manufacturing processes.

Jamie began his career working in research and development (R&D) for a multinational pharmaceutical company. He completed academic research investigating the delivery of therapeutic nucleotides before transitioning to intellectual property. Prior to joining Finnegan, Jamie practiced intellectual property and contract management for a world-leading animal health institute and worked at another large patent law firm in the U.K.
